Initial Setup
1. Power On
Connect the 12V DC adapter or USB-C power cable. The device boots automatically. During cellular registration the firmware shows LED 1 orange blinking; MQTT setup then uses LED 1 cyan breathing until the cloud session is up.
2. Connect via Mobile App
- Open PrecastX app → Devices tab
- Tap on the gateway in the "Nearby" section
- Follow the on-screen WiFi configuration wizard
3. Configure WiFi
Enter your facility's WiFi credentials:
- Network name (SSID)
- Password
- The gateway will test connectivity and confirm
For facilities with enterprise WiFi (WPA2-Enterprise), contact PrecastX support for advanced configuration options.
LED Indicators
These are the LED states that matter in normal use:
| LED | Color | Pattern | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
LED 1 | 🔴 | Fast blink | Cellular connection lost |
LED 1 | ⚪ | Solid (dim) | Gateway is powered on and idle |
LED 2 | 🟠 | Breathing | Backup battery is charging |
LED 2 | 🟢 | Solid | Backup battery is fully charged |
LED 3 | 🔵 | Solid | Connected to the mobile app over Bluetooth |
| All LEDs | 🟠 | Blinking | Shutdown pending; release the power button to turn the gateway off |
Deployment Guidelines
Placement
- Mount at a central location within your facility
- Elevate at least 2m from ground for best range
- Avoid placement inside metal enclosures
- Keep away from large metal structures that block radio signals
Range Considerations
| Environment | Typical Range |
|---|---|
| Open outdoor | 300m |
| Warehouse (high ceiling) | 150m |
| Indoor with walls | 100m |
| Through concrete walls | 30-50m |
Multiple gateways
For large facilities, deploy multiple gateways:
- Each covers a zone of your facility
- Sensors automatically connect to the strongest signal
- All data aggregates in the cloud seamlessly
Network Configuration
Firewall Requirements
Ensure the following outbound connections are allowed:
| Service | Protocol | Port | Domain |
|---|---|---|---|
| MQTT | TLS | 8883 | mqtt.precastx.com |
| HTTPS | TLS | 443 | api.precastx.com |
Static IP (Optional)
If your network requires static IP configuration, use the Mobile App:
- Connect to gateway via Bluetooth
- Go to Settings → Network → Advanced
- Toggle off "DHCP" and enter IP settings
Offline Operation
If internet connectivity is lost:
- Data continues to be collected from sensors
- Up to 7 days of data is stored locally
- When connectivity returns, buffered data is uploaded automatically
- LED 1 shows cyan breathing while the MQTT client reconnects, and fast red blinking on LED 1 if the cellular modem loses its bearer entirely
Maintenance
Firmware Updates
Updates are delivered automatically over-the-air when connected to the internet. You'll see a notification in the Web Dashboard when updates are applied.
Factory Reset
If needed, reset to factory defaults:
- Power off the device
- Press and hold the power button
- While holding, reconnect power
- Continue holding for 10 seconds
- LED will flash rapidly, then device reboots
Factory reset clears WiFi configuration but not device registration. The device remains linked to your team account.
